Day 9 ~ February Challenge 28-in-28 Days

 This is a photo of the underpainting for Winter River Light. The underpainitng was sketched with hard Nu-Pastels and then a brush and alcohol was used for the underpainting.

I love using Uart paper because it accepts this wet technique. Not all pastel papers will stand up to getting wet.

Winter River Light 7 x 9" Pastel on Uart paper, is a work-in-progress. I still need to "clean-up" the shapes of the trees and branches, and the sun shapes filtering through the branches. 

AUTUMN LIGHT ALONG THE RIVER 12 x 18

Remembering a day spent with my son and husband while they fished and I painted. A painting like this is personal, so though it might not be a masterpiece it is special to me.

As winter continues on in Wisconsin, I decided to do a colorful autumn landscape. This is one of my larger pieces so it took a few days to complete. I have difficulty working any larger because I can only handle glass that is 24 x 36, which is the size this one will be framed.

On this cold winter day I needed to work on a summer painting. Almost half way through the challenge.

We had very little snow this year so the landscape was mostly browns and grays. Here the pines and the blue of the water with the icy edge provided a bit of color.

BEYOND THE MILL POND

Our ground is still covered with several inches of snow. Working on this painting brought welcome relief to my snowblinded eyes. I'd love to be sitting on the fallen tree, dangling my feet in the creek.
This creek is in the Willow Creek State Fisheries Area. As a member of Paint the Parks, I will donate 10% of the sale of this painting to the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
