Twilight 12 x 12

Day 28 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
I loved the soft orange and pink light in this cold winter scene. Late day in winter often offers very interesting color combinations.

Edge of the Woods 9 x 9

Day 24 - Edge of the Woods
Day 24, almost there, six more to go. This was done from a photo I took of the woods near the end of my driveway. Behind the deer is the neighbor's corn field where the deer had been most likely eating dinner.

Late Afternoon Storm 9 x 12

Day 23 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days SOLD
A scene very near my home....I often see the sun just catching the tops of the trees on the distant treeline. This time it also provided a dramatic sky filled with storm clouds.

Sunlit Pines 8.5 x 8.5

Day 22 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
I've been wanting to do a painting of the green lichen that grows on many of the trees in our woodlot. I loved the colors in this painting...my favorites - greens and blues.

The Shack 9 x 11

Day 21 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
I am often attracted to derelict buildings. They seem to tell stories, and I like to embellish the stories in my own mind; thinking about the people that have used or inhabited them long ago. I wonder what the builder of this building would think if they saw this building today, so sadly neglected.

Clouds, Cows, and Shadows 9 x 9

Day 19 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
Yet another cloud painting, and again cows and calves. I might be unintentionally starting a series.

Byer's Peak 12 x 16

Day 18 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
This was painted from a photo I took while my husband and I were hiking with my son and daughter-in-law near Fraser, Colorado in the Arapahoe National Forest at St. Louis Creek. This is very near their home; what a beautiful area, I see why they want to live there.

Ten percent of the sale of this painting will be donated to the Waushara County, Wisconsin Chapter of the Ice Age Trail as part of the PaintTheParks program.

Half Way to the North Pole 9 x 9

Day 16 - 30  Paintings in 30 Days
After hiking at Rib Mountain with the Waushara Outdoor Women,  the group that I was with took a side trip to the exact center of the northern half of the Western Hemisphere. North 45 Parallel, West 90 Meridian - Marathon Co. WI, They were slightly more fascinated by the location than I was. I was more interested in this little creek that was nearby. I loved the reflections of the autumn trees in the still water.

The heavens are yours and
yours also the earth,
You founded the world and
all that is in it.
You created the north and the south.
Psalm 89:11-12

Russet 9 x 11

Day 14 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
Watching clouds is a favorite past time and has been since I was very young when I spent many hours laying in the grass, chewing on a blade of grass, and watching the clouds drift by. Clouds are often subjects in my paintings.

Cottage Memories 9 x 18

Day 13 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
My husband and I were looking through old family photos and we came across a black and white photo taken about 1940 of his grandparent's cottage on a small lake in Michigan. The cottage was still in the family when we got married and we both have fond memories of the cottage, the lake, and the good times we had with family there. I loved the play of light in the tall grass and the shadows on the cottage. I remember the pale yellow the cottage was painted.

Cows and a Horse 9 x 9

Day 12 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days - SOLD
Wisconsin is SO green and lush in the summer, and this winter has been VERY cold, the past few days have been bitter cold and now we have a warm up, but freezing rain, so I've been looking for colorful summer reference photos to work from. It does seem to warm me a bit.

Sunset 14 x 18

Day 11 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
My favorite time of day, when the sun sets and it's time for rest and reflection.

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

WINTER SUNRISE 9 x 9

Day 7 - 30  Paintings in 30 Days - SOLD
The sun was coming up and creating a red glow between the branches on the pine tree that was covered in snow. Some things that are so beautiful in life are difficult to recreate. The digital image is not capturing the painting's subtleties.

Cow Trails 9 x 9

Day 6 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
When I was a child I woke up one day to see a cow just outside my window. The neighbor's cows were loose and  investigating the grass "on the other side of the fence".

FIELD IN MOTION 8.5 x 11"

Day 2 of the 30 Paintings  in 30 Days Challenge
I grew up in farm country, my parents had a farm in Ohio and even when we moved to Michigan we were in a rural area with a big farm field behind our house. I have many happy memories of my childhood and I think that must be why farm scenes attract my attention as subjects for my paintings.
