A scene very near my home....I often see the sun just catching the tops of the trees on the distant treeline. This time it also provided a dramatic sky filled with storm clouds.

Wisconsin is SO green and lush in the summer, and this winter has been VERY cold, the past few days have been bitter cold and now we have a warm up, but freezing rain, so I've been looking for colorful summer reference photos to work from. It does seem to warm me a bit.

The sun was coming up and creating a red glow between the branches on the pine tree that was covered in snow. Some things that are so beautiful in life are difficult to recreate. The digital image is not capturing the painting's subtleties.

When I was a child I woke up one day to see a cow just outside my window. The neighbor's cows were loose and  investigating the grass "on the other side of the fence".

This painting was started over a week ago, when friends and I got together to paint. I didn't finish it until today. An earlier version I painted from the same photo reference in the GALLERY on my website. I missed two days of the 30 day challenge and I'm still not feeling great, so finishing this rather than starting fresh today was just what I needed.

Fog and Snow 5 x 7
Today the temperatures rose into the 40's and most of Wisconsin was blanketed in fog. It rained during the night last night and part of the morning but we still have snow on the ground, and the ski hill  near our house was open today. In this painting I tried to capture the cold fog.

100 STROKES 5.5 X 9

A small study completed with 100 strokes. I might make this my next challenge - complete 100 - 100 stroke paintings in 100 days. I'll really have to think about that because I am getting ready for three upcoming exhibits all within the next six months so that challenge may have to wait until this summer. That would be a good time to do that challenge; I could add that the 100 paintings have to be done en plein air!

 Day 8 - I am still hanging in there, keeping up with Leslie Saeta's challenge to complete a  painting everyday, for thirty days. Hopefully this will become my life style - to paint every day. I have always admired daily painters, and now I have a little bit of an idea what it takes to do it. Of course, it takes much more dedication to keep it up for weeks, months and years; day after day. I am enjoying the painting but I am enjoying the connections I am making with people most of all.
