A very beautiful and popular location in Wisconsin. I have not been able to capture in the photo the colors that are in the painting.

ASPEN GOLD - CRANMER STREET, WINTERPARK, CO 9-18-2014 9 X 11.5
Last night we got home from a 10 day trip to Colorado to visit our son. While there I was able to complete this plein air piece. I was interested in capturing the shadows on the dirt road and the light on the yellow aspens. This painting is available through the Jura Silverman Gallery, Spring Green, Wisconsin.

Day 12 - Autumn on the Pine River 10 x 14
September is such a busy month. We have been like the squirrels scampering around hiding their nuts, getting ready for winter. The past few days I've not had a new painting to post for the 30 day challenge, but I have been painting; the trim of the house, a book case for my daughter, and I worked on a couple of commision paintings. Also I have been getting ready to teach a workshop this Saturday.
This painting is from a photo I took near my home, at a property owned by friends. I have been wanting to paint this for quite some time. I liked the way the light was coming down illuminating the pines, the red maple and the leaves that were floating on the river.

BURNING OFF OF THE FOG 10 X 13
Day 2 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
I have once again accepted Leslie Saeta's challenge to complete a painting a day each day during the month of September. I hesitated to accept the challenge. September is a very busy month and I don't like to set a goal I can't keep. I decided an attempt to paint daily is better than not attempting at all. I am working on a new technique. I have tried using an underpainting in the past but I found myself rarely using that method, but I just took a workshop with an artist whose work I have long admired; Barbara Jaenicke. She uses an underpainting and I have decided to try this method again. Yesterday's painting and todays painting were both started with an underpainting. I am beginning to like this method, but I still have a few challenges to work through. this painting is available through Daily Paint Works: http://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/susan-klabak/burning-off-the-fog/254397

Half Way to the North Pole 9 x 9
Day 16 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days
After hiking at Rib Mountain with the Waushara Outdoor Women, the group that I was with took a side trip to the exact center of the northern half of the Western Hemisphere. North 45 Parallel, West 90 Meridian - Marathon Co. WI, They were slightly more fascinated by the location than I was. I was more interested in this little creek that was nearby. I loved the reflections of the autumn trees in the still water.
The heavens are yours and
yours also the earth,
You founded the world and
all that is in it.
You created the north and the south.
Psalm 89:11-12

SUNLIGHT IN THE AUTUMN WOOD 16 X 26
This is one of my favorite places to take a walk, on the top of Nordic Mountain Ski Hill. There are great hiking trails through wooded areas which are also used by mountain bikers in the summer and fall.

30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS - #17
RED TRUCK 8 X 10
This painting was started over a week ago, when friends and I got together to paint. I didn't finish it until today. An earlier version I painted from the same photo reference in the GALLERY on my website. I missed two days of the 30 day challenge and I'm still not feeling great, so finishing this rather than starting fresh today was just what I needed.

30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS - DAY 7
AUTUMN DRIVE 6 X 6
Through Leslie Saeta's blog site and her 30 day challenge I have "met" many other artists who have accepted Leslie's challenge to complete a daily painting. The connections have been made by email with artists across the US and beyond. I've discussed a trade of artwork with another artist and shared ideas and comments with many others. It's been inspiring to know we are 'in this together' and supporting each other.

VALENTINE COMPLEMENTS 17 x 13"
On this last day of February I send you Valentine Greetings through this painting. I loved the complementary colors of the sky and the flaming maple tree. It was SO red it made me think of Valentine hearts. Notice the paint on the boulder on the left. The initials proclaiming their love for all to see were already there, but I changed them to reflect my maiden name and my husband's. D.K. + S.M., still together after 38, soon to be 39 years.
