Long Winter Shadows - En plein Air 8.5 x 10" Pastel on Art Spectrum paper.

It was another unseasonably warm winter day in Wisconsin and a great day for painting outdoors. The sun was bright and the shadows were long. From my view the sun was just kissing the tops of the trees.

Day 18 ~ February Challenge

Cirrus Clouds ~ En Plein Aire 12" x 9" Pastel on Richeson Pastel Paper

It was another unseasonably warm winter day, so I headed out to paint outdoors. I didn't travel far, just to the field behind my house.The sky was intensely blue with high, thin cirrus clouds. It was great to be outside. Working on the  Richeson paper was new to me and I liked the rough texture and deep tooth.

HOLIDAY GREETINGS

PEACE - My Christmas wish for you. I chose Snow-Covered Lane to use for my holiday greeting because it conveys a quiet sense of peace. This painting is of the driveway to my home. I walk down the drive almost every day and when it is covered with a heavy snow like the one in the painting I am filled with a sense of peace and well-being. When the sun sparkles on the snow creating a zillion priceless diamonds I am very aware of the treasure I have in living where I do.

Reflecting on the past year I am very thankful for the time spent with family and friends. I am also very thankful that I have the opportunity to create art and for the many ways it connects me to you. I am thankful for each of you and the encouragement you give me. I truly hope that my art brings pleasure to others.

May PEACE be yours today and every day in the coming year. If we are unable to meet face-to-face, I hope we will meet here (via computer) in 2017.

EVENING SHADOWS 10.5 x 13.5

I love this time of day, when the shadows are long and the sun light is soft and creates a peach-colored glow.

JANUARY MORNING 12 x 15 Day 1 - 30 in 30 Days

Morning sun filters through the trees creating a nice contrast between the blue snow shadows and the soft  peachy early morning light, This is the first day of Leslie Saeta's  Challenge to paint 30 in 30 days. I have a few commissions to do this month, so I'm not sure I'll complete the challenge, but it's fun to participate, so I'll post what I am able to get done.

I just love when nature provides this kind of scene right before my eyes; the purple wildflowers, the deep blue sky and the yellow/orange trees, incredible.

Day 28 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I loved the soft orange and pink light in this cold winter scene. Late day in winter often offers very interesting color combinations.
